We offer PC mount transformers in a number of con

figurations to meet both the power and dimension requirements of your electronics projects. In addition to the iron-core, through-hole transformers described on this page, we also manufacture surface-mount transformers in an array of configurations.

HIGH FREQUENCY TRANSFORMERS

High frequency transformers offer the advantage of smaller size and weight for a given power output. The trade-off being that these transformers require external circuitry to
drive the high frequencies. High-frequency transformers generally use ferrite cores, as opposed to iron cores, resulting in lower remanence and higher efficiency.

While many high-frequency transformers are built for PC-mount configurations, PROPER can manufacture high-frequency transformers of almost any size.
We are experienced in high-frequency transformer design, and we have the evaluation equipment to measure the effects inherent in high-frequency environments,
such as leakage inductance, inter/intra-winding capacitance, proximity effects, and parasitic capacitance.

Proper can design and manufacture high-frequency transformers to meet nearly any requirement. For more information about how we can provide your transformer needs,

please send us your specifications or call us today!

POWER TRANSFORMERS

Power Transformer is a broad term for many kinds of transformers used to deliver power. PROPER manufactures power transformers for a wide variety of applications—typically no larger than 10 KVA.
A transformer in its most basic form is two coil windings that are inductively coupled to each other. When an alternating current is applied to one of the windings, that winding is referred to as the primary winding. The current gives the core of the transformer a varying magnetic flux and generates a varying magnetic field through the second winding. This produces a varying voltage on the secondary winding by an effect called mutual induction.
Depending on the transformer design, it will have the ability to either increase or decrease the voltage applied to the primary winding. This makes the transformer either a
step-up transformer or a step-down transformer.
This ability is useful because machines and appliances are designed to work at specific voltage levels, which are often different than those supplied by available power sources.

PROPER can design and manufacture power transformers to meet nearly any requirement—up to 10 KVA.

TOROIDS

Toroidal transformers (toroids) are built around a circular core. A primary and secondary coil is wound around the ring shaped core, which is typically made out of silicon steel,  perm alloy, or a sintered ferrite. The coils are wound concentrically to cover the surface of the core.
Toroidal Transformers are more efficient than E-type transformers for similar power levels. Toroid transformers are also typically smaller and weigh less than laminated E types. Some of the other advantages include a low exterior magnetic field, low off-load losses, and single-bolt mounting options.

INDUCTORS & CHOKES

When you need a custom inductor for applications that can withstand high voltage and high current requirements, General Transformer Corporation is your best resource for custom inductor design and development. Our team of engineering experts have the skill set and experience to turn your inductor design dream into a reality.

PROPER can design and manufacture inductors and chokes to meet nearly any requirement.Inductors are passive electronic components used to smooth out ripple voltages

Applications of Custom Inductors & Chokes

In dc circuits, inductors are commonly used for filtering, allowing smooth dc current flow while blocking AC. In such applications, they are sometimes called chokes. In AC circuits, custom inductors are used for filtering, noise reduction, power factor correction, and many other purposes, and are sometimes referred to as reactors.

Custom inductors are suitable for both high voltage and high current applications. They can be found in:

  • Sensors
  • Tuning circuits
  • Energy storage
  • Motor drives
  • Rectifiers
  • Power supplies
  • Battery chargers

COILS

A coil typically consists of multiple turns of magnet wire around a winding form. The magnet wire can be made of copper with an insulating film. Winding multiple turns of wire in the shape of a coil enhances the magnetic field created when electric current flows through the wire. The coil is useful for storing energy, smoothing or filtering current,
or transferring energy to other coils.
Coils are often used in high-frequency specialty applications, such as antennas and electronic filters. They are a fundamental component of transformers, inductors, and chokes.
While a transformer has a coil (or multiple coils), a coil is not necessarily a transformer.
